All the attention SXSW has been getting the past couple weeks has got me thinking Austin. Throughout all my travels, I have discovered ATX to be one of my favorite places in the world. It was pure kismet that my favorite photographic duo, Rebecca & Josh, moved there--I also plan to move to Austin in the future, so now I have friends there already!
These photos were shot in the middle of February, in preparation for the launch of Luna Elise. I was on a fun girls' weekend with Tiana (the blonde killing the shots above!) that was in part a chance for me to scope out my new city. At the time, my move to Austin was going to be happening very soon! I feel an affinity for this city with its river twining through the skyscrapers and the peaceful vibes felt all throughout. The mixture of urban and nature reflects my style and personality. However, I have a romantic soul. If there was any reason that I would see it worthwhile to stay in Kansas, that reason would be love. As it usually does, love came upon me unexpectedly, so I am content to earmark Austin for a future date.
These photos will not be a moving announcement anymore, but they still showcase some perfect spring fashions. This is THE season for maxi dresses! They are so transitional; wear them during the day when it's warm then throw on a denim or leather jacket when the sun goes down and there's a chill in the air. Lace is such a perfect, feminine fabric for spring. I paired my white lace maxi with my black Dolce Vita booties to give it a bit of an edge. Tiana's look was kept simple to emphasize the intricate details of her dress--the cut outs at the waist and back + the see through lower skirt. I own the same dress in a different color (navy) and it is so gorgeous and versatile--definitely recommend for wedding season coming up!
It's easy to ramp up the gypsy factor on my simple maxi dress by layering up with accessories. The best thing about the accessories I chose is that they are staple pieces that can be mixed in with several different outfits. I am always going for my amethyst pendant necklace either layered under a low neck style or with the pendant on display. The gold and black arrow cuff is by one of my favorite jewelry brands, House of Harlow. Their pieces are slightly more expensive, but they can be worn time and time again with so many outfits. I'm always wearing tons of rings. You can get affordable stacks easily at H&M or Forever21. The armlet and metal belt are from Free People. They are both sold out, but I found comparable items (and ended up "having" to buy a couple things of my own on FP). The belt is kind of an extra "splurge" piece as it isn't something you'll wear everyday, but even it has versatile qualities. Loop it around your neck and you have a statement necklace! Spring and summer are the perfect time to experiment with carefree, boho accessories and find your perfect mix of favorites!
