Part of the amazing thing about the creative process is working with fun people who sometimes become some of your best friends. I have shot with Rebecca and Josh of Mira Visu Photography ever since I was in college, and they have provided so much inspiration and material for this blog. Including this very COLD set of images shot in KC! It was crazy to be shooting with these new Austinites in Kansas City, but like we joked, I am creating a collection of skyline shoots (See my other skyline shoot in ATX here).
This was such a productive shoot. Even though it was really cold, we pushed through and shot five different outfits--and found a majestic hot dog! So I have a lot more goodness to come from this shoot. This look features an outfit I have been commonly wearing this season. We have had a pretty chilly spring, so I have found myself sticking to warmer, layered looks. I also have been really loving dark neutral colors, especially olive green.
This Free People coat is a statement piece that I bought last fall. The embroidery and metal studs on the sleeves make it really stand out. It's a medium weight material, so it can be layered over thick sweaters for extra warmth or tossed on over a tank like in these pics for less insulation. Unfortunately, it is sold out on the website, but I will link a similar style below!
Crop tops and I have a dubious relationship. Yes, I have featured them in the past three posts now, but I always feel a little insecure wearing one. Unless you style them just right, they can look unflattering on even the thinnest person. However, I like this gray one because it's not too tight or too short. Also it's super casual so it's not trying too hard. When I'm wearing a crop with tight jeans, I like to have a layer over it just to avoid any unflattering situations. I wore this same outfit to dinner the other week and layered a khaki cardigan under the coat so when I took off my coat I was still covered up. The key with tight outfits is to be classy yet sexy--reveal a little and gain a lot of style points! ;)
Now let's talk about these jeans. I am obsessed with these jeans. It's hard for me to find jeans that fit well, and I haven't bit the bullet and invested in a high end brand...yet. So for now, my go to brand for jeans is American Eagle, the low rise jegging to be specific. I ordered these faded black, ripped pair last fall and they have been an instant go-to ever since. I love wearing black denim, I feel like it makes an outfit look so sharp. In this case, the rips give the outfit that extra edge.
Accessories. True to form, I have lots of accessories here. My Dolce Vita Jaeger booties make another appearance again. The rest of the outfit was pretty studded, ripped and cropped so I wanted to keep the shoes simple. I love the worn patina these booties are taking on as I wear them more! This vegan leather bucket bag was from Urban Outfitters a couple summers ago. If you can't tell by now, I love studded accessories. Finally, I stacked on loads of delicate rings. American Eagle has really great prices on fun little rings like this. Check out their selection here.
Even though I don't like the cold weather, I do like this outfit. It embodies what I love to do with my style lately--go for a mix of basic items, layer up accessories and add a carefree spirit.
I apologize that the items in this post are almost all sold out everywhere! As always, I tried to link similar choices. Hopefully my look inspires you nonetheless! :)
