I have a rule when I am buying something super trendy--find an affordable version. Whereas I would have no problem dropping some serious cash on a designer pair of staple jeans, when I knew I wanted to try wide leg pants, I opted for a low-price option. Since trends come and go so fast, it's best (in my opinion) to not invest too much money in fad pieces. Stores like Forever 21 and H&M make it so easy to grab those sought after, statement pieces that maybe you won't wear next season. Plus, they won't break your bank!
I know I typically feature a lot of higher end stuff here. Many times when I shoot I want to show off my statement clothes! However, there's nothing better than finding an amazing piece for a steal that gets worn over and over again. I had this outfit envisioned in my mind, so I headed straight to Forever21. Of course they had the exact pants I had envisioned--lightweight, nude colored, with a high waist. I had already spotted this white crop at American Eagle (another place I stock up on affordable pieces). The crop and pants paired together create a classic look. These two pieces are so affordable, can be paired together or separately and can create so many different looks depending on what accessories you style with them!
Rebecca and Josh did such a great job capturing detail shots during this shoot. I love the way these captured the finer points of this outfit. The jewelry is also affordable. The statement necklace is from Forever21 for the low price of ten bucks (I know, it doesn't look like a cheap piece!). Try as I might, I was not able to find the exact necklace I'm wearing on F21.com. I purchased it a few weeks ago in stores, so you might have better luck finding this exact necklace at the mall. I did find some very similar styles which I will link below!
While you are out at the store or on the F21 website, snag some cute rings. F21 has gobs of rings you can pick up and stack your fingers with. I love delicate rings that you can really play with and layer without weighing down your hands. I am not wearing F21 rings in these photos, but I found some sets on their website that I LOVE. I will link those below. Each set is under $7...can you beat that?!
Then of course there is the hat. If you spend any amount of time on this blog, you will come to realize my love affair with hats is real and passionate. Add a hat and, boom! instant class. With this outfit, I love the way the hat ties into the color of the pants and the black band ties into the shoes and the black stone in the necklace. The hat and drapey pants lend an elegant vibe to the boho spirit of the accessories and the crop top. I'm digging it. I could see myself wearing this to brunch with friends or out wine tasting. The hat linked below is not my exact hat, fyi. The hat I am wearing is from last season clearance at Urban Outfitters. So it was still affordable, but no longer available. The hat linked below is F21 and would suit this outfit just as well! :)
Finally, we have the shoes. I cheated a bit on my affordable outfit plan with these shoes. As much as I love the convenience and variety of affordable stores such as Forever 21, when it comes to shoes, I like to stick to higher quality brands. Not to say I am not scoping for the best sales on those high quality shoes, but to me if it's going on your feet it needs to be highly comfortable and durable. This may seem like a contradiction to my previous point about not splurging on trendy styles, but when it comes to shoes I tend to find myself wearing all my pairs season after season. The key here is to buy smart: look for sales, find pieces that truly fit your personal style, and don't be afraid to splurge on the basics. These strappy wedges are by Bed Stu. They are handmade in Mexico with leather straps and wood soles. The attention to detail on these is phenomenal as they are handmade by cobblers. I have linked them below for those of you interested in checking out the brand. However, in true form to keeping this outfit affordable, I found a relatively similar pair at F21. They aren't exactly the same, but they feature the same strappy, platform style as the higher priced pair.
With the original necklace I bought at Forever21 (which was under $10), and the affordable picks below, this outfit costs under $100! Elegant looks don't have to come with a high price tag. I hope everyone liked this post. I will definitely do more affordable looks in the future! While typing up this post, I had the idea of styling this outfit (the crop and pants) with different accessories for a whole new look. What do you guys think?
