Show of proverbial Internet hands, who else isn't that into New Year's Eve? The holiday always sneaks up on me so quickly after Christmas, and rarely do the celebrations lead up to their expectations. Ok, I realize this sounds highly cynical--and it is. I have always lived my live with a healthy dollop of cautious pessimism; this leaves more room to be pleasantly surprised!
Coming around to my main point, one of the things that really makes me want to say f**k it and stay home on the couch is the dilemma of wanting to wear sexy, sparkly bits of clothing while the thermometer also shows a rather sparse figure. Thus, my outfits for NYE are generally a last minute affair. Sparkles and dressing up are fine, but if you find yourself wanting to go the understated route, or if you find yourself having gone the procrastination route (so me)--this guide to NYE dressing is for you.
Don't get frostbite...
I've been watching the news today, and the record-low temperatures have been all over the sound bytes. So, before you go out for the night, for f**k's sake consider your game plan for the evening! If you plan to barhop--literally walking between bars--please do yourself (and your dignity) a favor and don't wear tall heels and a minuscule dress. You'll fall, you'll freeze and you won't be getting the kind of attention you were going for in the first place.
To style this cute and warm look last minute, look no further than your black jeans, boots or booties and your cutest (but still warm) coat. I like a leather jacket or faux fur coat. Preferably both of the latter, layered if you have them. A monochrome black look is great for NYE. Incorporate a pop of color in your bag, shoes or coat. Don't be afraid to throw on a cute beanie if you're headed to the bars. There's no better way to stand out than looking casually cool while everyone else is trying too hard. Below are items I actually have in my closet that I would pull for this look (only difference is my hat is red and jeans are black!).
Stay Warm/Look Cool Inspiration
LBD and done...
If the extent of your tundra-like traipsing is limited to the door from the Uber, you have a bit more flexibility with your outfit. This can pose a problem if you are grabbing something last minute (the allure of sequins, but the lack thereof on hand). However, if you learn anything from this blog, learn to never underestimate the power of a little black dress. You will look timeless and never like you're trying too hard. Whatever LBD you pull, glam it up with accessories and heels. Add sheer metallic or fishnet socks for a fun look (if you have them on hand). An LBD gives you a fun chance to play up the accessories. The look at the top of this post would be perfect. It's simple and glamorous, and the unexpected trendy headband style completes the look.
Timeless on a Time Crunch Inspiration
This is a short guide, but when you're short on time too many options just get confusing! I hope this helped in preventing a panic for some of you this weekend. No matter what you end up wearing, confidence is the finishing touch to rock it! Cheers to 2018!
